Christmas light show shines bright in Rapid City

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Denny and Jodi Leibel have been decorating their house with Christmas lights as long as they can remember but for the past ten years, their house has been a stop for the ‘Tour de Lights‘. But this collection of lights didn’t start overnight — the Leibels have been gathering more and more decorations each year.

“We started out small and every year have gone a little bit bigger a little bit bigger,” said Denny Leibel. “I always had the dream of being that go-to house. You know I remember as a kid driving around and looking at Christmas lights and there were some houses that were just like WOW. And as we have gotten a little bit bigger I have wanted to be that house and I think we are pretty close.”

With some lights and decorations it would seem hard to fit anything else in, but the Leibels’ made sure there was room for Buddy the elf and Mr. Kris Kringle himself.

“I have a good friend who owns this house and it seemed like a really good place to come and see some kids and families and just have a good time in Rapid City,” said Santa Claus. “The reindeer like coming down here, there is nice big open field right over here and we drop the reindeer over there and they get to eat and rest and they just love coming down here as much as I do.”

The lights will be displayed every night until Christmas and Buddy the elf and Santa will be back Fridays and Saturdays until the big day.
