Children’s Miracle Network Miracle Moment: Lyla Johnson

The Children’s Miracle Network got its start in 1983 with the mission to help cover the cost of medical care for children. Since then, they have raised over seven billion dollars, most donations raised only one dollar at a time. Children’s hospitals like Monument Health rely on the kind donations of their communities to improve the lives of as many children as possible.

Mikayla Johnson’s daughter Lyla was only 14 months old when she was diagnosed with cancer in both of her kidneys last September. They were initially life flighted out to Sioux falls from the ER in Rapid City, and then were required to travel back and forth from both places every week for chemotherapy for eight months. Johnson explains that they have been helped so much by Children’s Miracle Network. From funds for transportation to providing toys and comfort items for Lyla during her many hospital stays both in Sioux Falls and in Rapid City. According to Johnson, “We are so thankful for all the community support, because kids can’t fight cancer alone.”
