Child identified in Falling Rock death

FALLING ROCK, S.D. — UPDATE: The victim that died at Falling Rock has been identified. Six-year-old Sadie Whitetwin of Pierre died Sunday, March 31, 2019, about noon at Falling Rock west of Rapid City in Pennington County. The investigative team has concluded the death was from an accidental fall from a cliff.

2:30 PM Sunday — Pennington County Sheriff’s Office has released that a 6-year-old female has passed away from injuries sustained after she fell from a cliff in the Falling Rock Rd. area, west of Rapid City in Pennington County.

The initial investigation supports that this is an accident. The child’s body is being held pending further investigation. More information will be provided as it becomes available.


1:40 P.M. Sunday — Authorities are responding to reports of a person falling from a cliff off Falling Rock Rd. near Johnson Siding. According to a NewsCenter1 reporter at the scene of the accident, there is heavy police, search & rescue and life flight presence in the area performing what Justin Lena, of Johnson Siding Volunteer Fire Department, describes as a “manual extraction.”

Authorities have not confirmed the age, sex or any other identifying information of the person being rescued.
