RAPID CITY, S.D. – NewsCenter1 has received an email from Community Relations Specialist, Brendyn Medina containing three RCPD events that happened on March 8.
Pursuit/Commission of a Felony with a Firearm – On March 8th at around 8:05 p.m., police observed a Dodge SUV fail to stop at the intersection of N. Maple Avenue and Knollwood Drive. Police turned around on the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop, but the SUV sped up and continued eastbound onto E. Disk Drive. The vehicle turned south on Lacrosse Street before heading eastbound onto Interstate-90. Shortly after passing exit 60, the vehicle slowed and came to a stop. The driver fled the vehicle on foot, just before officers observed the front passenger toss a dark-colored object out of the window. The driver, identified as 39-year-old Joseph Birdshead of Rapid City, was quickly taken into custody with the assistance of the South Dakota Highway Patrol. Meanwhile, another officer issued loud verbal commands for the passenger to exit the vehicle. After several minutes, a female was observed exiting the passenger side of the vehicle. She was safely taken into custody and identified as 37-year-old Doris Romero of Rapid City. The black object that was tossed from the vehicle was determined to be a handgun with the serial number filed off. Police located a syringe inside the vehicle which field-tested positive for methamphetamine. At the conclusion of the investigation, Birdshead was placed under arrest for Aggravated Eluding, Obstruction, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of a Firearm with a Prior Felony Drug Conviction, Commission of a Felony with a Firearm, Possession of a Firearm with an Altered Serial Number, and three Warrants. Romero was placed under arrest for Possession of a Controlled substance and a Probation Hold. Both were subsequently transported to the Pennington County Jail.
Drug Arrest/Impersonation – At around 11:00 p.m. on March 8th, police observed a passenger vehicle traveling westbound on Knollwood Drive with a headlight out. A traffic stop was initiated and police made contact with the vehicle occupants. One of the occupants initially gave police a false name, but was quickly identified as 32-year-old Rodney Americanhorse of Rapid City thanks to his distinctive facial tattoos. Police identified another occupant as 47-year-old Wenona Richards of Rapid City, who had an active Warrant for her arrest. A search of her person turned up several snort tubes containing a substance that field-tested positive for methamphetamine. The driver, identified as 46-year-old Jolynn Rodriquez of Rapid City, was found to be in possession of methamphetamine as well. A wallet with an ID card belonging to Americanhorse was located inside the vehicle. The wallet also contained methamphetamine. Americanhorse was placed under arrest for Impersonation to Deceive Law Enforcement, Possession of a Controlled substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and a Probation Hold. Richards was placed under arrest for Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and a Probation Hold. Rodriquez was placed under arrest for Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Driving without a Valid License. All three were transported to the Pennington County Jail.
Warrant Arrest – 85-year-old Dallas Krausch was taken into custody on March 8th for several warrants resulting from an ongoing investigation for Solicitation of a Minor, Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, and Loitering in a Community Safety Zone. The associated cases have been handed over to the Pennington County States Attorney’s Office for Prosecution.
