RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Rushmore Thunder boys hockey team returned to action on Saturday.
The Thunder hosted the Oahe Capitals.
Both teams are off to a strong start this season.
The Thunder entered the game with a perfect record while the Capitals only had one loss.
Rushmore outscored Oahe 4-1 after the two periods and the Thunder went on to beat the Capitals, 4-3.
Carter Kirk, Kaleb Suelflow, Marshall Retzer and Alexander Dietrich each scored a goal for the Thunder.
Plus, goalie Jackson Habrock set aside 20 out of 23 shots for Rushmore.
The Thunder, who are 5-0 on the season, will host Brandon Valley on Jan. 14-15.
Meanwhile, the Rushmore Thunder also received a $1,000 grant before Saturday’s game from the Gatorade’s Play It Forward program.
It was awarded to the Thunder by Rapid City Stevens senior Simeon Birnbaum, South Dakota’s Gatorade Player of the Year.
Birnbaum is a state champion in cross country and track.
