Chapel in the Hills to celebrate 50th Anniversary

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Chapel in the Hills is celebrating their 50th anniversary this weekend.

Starting Friday night, there will be an evening of Norwegian dancing and music. Then on Saturday, there are a number of unique events that will begin at 10 a.m. and go until 7 p.m.

Brian Kringen is the Managing Director, Chapel in the Hills. He says, “The chapel is kind of one of those hidden gems in the Black Hills that people know about but have maybe never been out there. We’re kind of hidden in West Rapid City. You have to purposely want to go there. You have to find it on the map and go out there. Then once people are there, they’re really surprised and they’re happy with what they see. It’s just a nice, relaxing place to be.”

Kringen adds that there is also a special ceremony happening on Saturday for people who have been married at the chapel. “Saturday in the afternoon, we have a celebration of marriage vows for anyone who has been married at the Chapel in the Hills over the last 50 years. We have close to 90 couples already signed up and so that will be happening at 3:30. Then following that we will have actually a service of re-dedication of the chapel’s ministry out there with some returning pastors and other special guests.”

The public is invited to attend all the events happening this weekend for free.

The chapel was built back in 1969 and has served as a place of spiritual peace for people visiting the Black Hills ever since.
