Central States Fairgrounds starts construction on a new horse barn

RAPID CITY, S.D. — The Central States Fairgrounds broke ground on Friday for what some might call cushy new stalls.

The heated, indoor facility will add more than 80 horse stalls. The insulated barn is intended to accommodate southern horses during the winter months.

More horses means bigger events, something that benefits the entire community.

“Big things are coming for us, for the city, for the region, for the country and probably for the nation.” Said John Kersteins President of the CSF Board of Directors. “To be able to host large livestock events and equine events in this area will draw hundreds of thousands, if not millions of dollars into the area. Again just one step closer to our ultimate goal of being the premier livestock facility in the nation.”

Construction is expected to be complete before next spring.
