Central States Fair attendance exceeded years past

The 2017 Central States Fair is over, and officials say it was the best turnout they have seen in years.

For the first time in history, the Central States Fair lasted for a full 10 days. Something special this year – the carnival rides stayed open from noon until five Sunday for some last-chance fun.

Full tear down will begin Monday, but with the concert line up and rodeo events, the grandstands stayed full.

"It seems that almost every night was up from previous years and of course with last year the first Friday and the last Friday we got huge rainstorms then and that really put a damper on our rodeo and our motor crossed,” said John Kaiser the operations manager for the Central States Fair. “We had such perfect weather across motor crossed and demo derby, all of the concerts were up, and then the three nights of rodeo. Plus, the ranch rodeo were all better than last year so overall it was perfect."

If you didn’t get a chance this year to hit the fair, next year’s dates are set for Aug. 17-26.
