Car hits signal pole, delays on Elk Vale Road/Concourse Drive during repair
RAPID CITY, S.D. — A signal pole at the intersection of Elk Vale Road (U.S. 16B) and Concourse Drive was struck by a motorist early Saturday morning, causing the intersection to operate as an all-way stop.
According to the South Dakota Department of Transportation, the pole and footing were damaged to the point that the pole had to be removed for service.
Repair efforts are currently taking place and officials are working to have a temporary signal system by late Wednesday, Jan. 15. This temporary signal will remain in service until repairs to or replacement of the footing can be made.
Motorists can expect to see lane closures in the westbound lanes during the temporary signal instillation and are advised to slow down and be aware of construction workers and equipment next to the driving lanes.
There is no estimate at this time for when the permanent signal system will be fully back in place.
