Car fire quickly extinguished in Rushmore Plaza Civic Center parking lot

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Black smoke bellowed briefly from the Civic Center parking lot Wednesday afternoon as a single vehicle.

Rapid City police and fire departments were called just before 3:30 p.m. after a driver noticed smoke coming from her vehicle.

Officials say she pulled into the parking lot, a safe distance from any other vehicles, trees, or buildings, and managed to get out safely before the car went up in flames.

The fire department arrived within minutes, quickly extinguishing the fire. A spokesperson for the Rapid City police department says the cause for the fire is a mechanical issue.

No one was injured in the incident.
