UNION CENTER, S.D. — A camper caught fire while it was traveling near Union Center on Thursday.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol says Northern Hills Troopers arrived after being dispatched to the scene to find the camper fully engulfed in flames.

Officials say the driver of a vehicle behind the camper noticed that there was smoke coming from it. The driver was able to signal the vehicle towing the camper to pull over. They then unhooked the camper and drove a safe distance away.

The Highway Patrol says no one was injured in the incident, but the camper was a total loss.
