Boys Basketball Roundup: Hot Springs punches ticket to state tournament
St. Thomas More and Pine Ridge boys also qualify for state tournament
RAPID CITY, S.D. – The last time the Hot Springs Bison qualified for the state boys basketball tournament, Franklin Delano Roosevelt was president of the United States and a gallon of gas cost 15 cents.
The year was 1945.
Seventy-four years later, the Bison were finally able to break that streak.
Hot Springs defeated the Winner Warriors on Tuesday night in the Sodak 16, 54-41.
The first half was a back and forth battle that featured several lead changes. In fact, the Bison only had a one-point lead at halftime, 28-27.
But Hot Springs outscored Winner 26-14 in the second half to come away with the victory.
The Bison were led by Kelton Harris with 22 points, while Brady Fritz led the Warriors with 20 points.
Hot Springs advances to the State A Boys Basketball Tournament March 14-16 in Sioux Falls.
Winner finishes the season at 16-6.
