Box Elder man identified in Whitewood fatal crash

WHITEWOOD, S.D. — A Box Elder man has died as a results of injuries suffered in a two-vehicle crash that occurred Wednesday, Nov. 16, in Whitewood.

Preliminary crash information indicates that a 2005 Dodge Durango was eastbound on South Dakota Highway 34 when it left the roadway to the south, crossed into the westbound lane, and collided with a westbound 2015 Ford F350 pickup and trailer.

51-year-old Buddy King, the driver of the Durango, was not wearing a seatbelt and had to be extricated from the vehicle. He was flown to a Rapid City hospital where he died on Friday, Nov. 18.

The four occupants of the pickup, Larry Hollerich, 73 of Amboy, Minnesota, Richard Fitzsimmons, 55 of Good Thunder, Minnesota, Myles Fitzimmons, 37 of Amboy, Minnesota and a nine-year-old juvenile male of Amboy, Minnesota, were not injured. They were wearing seatbelts.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash, and all information released so far is only preliminary.
