RAPID CITY, S.D. — A Box Elder man has been arrested on multiple charges after a rollover accident early Wednesday morning.

At around 12:55 a.m. on March 9, police were dispatched to the area of 6th Street and Omaha Street for a report of a rollover accident involving one vehicle. On arrival, police located a Honda Accord upside down in the median.

Police made contact with the driver, who was standing outside of the vehicle. He was identified as 24-year-old Michael Griffithmartinez of Box Elder. Police also made contact with witnesses who stated the Honda was travelling eastbound on Omaha Street at a high rate of speed when it swerved and drove into the median, causing the car to flip.

When police made contact with Michael Griffithmartinez, they noted the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his person. Following a DUI investigation, it was determined he was too impaired to safely operate a motor vehicle. Police located a handgun inside the vehicle. On further investigation, it was learned the firearm was stolen.

Griffithmartinez was placed under arrest for DUI (2nd), Possession of a Loaded Firearm while Intoxicated, Reckless Driving, and No Proof of Insurance before being transported to the Pennington County Jail.

The RCPD has made 112 DUI arrests since January 1, 2022.
