Box Elder man arrested following morning pursuit in Rapid City
RAPID CITY, S.D. — Authorities say a 28-year-old Box Elder man has been taken into custody after a pursuit in Rapid City Friday morning.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol says the pursuit started when a trooper attempted to pull over Darwin Toof for a traffic violation on U.S. Highway 16B near mile marker 71 at about 8 a.m.
Toof took off, leading law enforcement on a pursuit to the intersection of Twilight Drive and Haycamp Lane in Rapid Valley.
He then exited the vehicle and fled on foot. He was found a short time later lying behind a shed.
Charges will be referred to the state’s attorney, according to the Highway Patrol.
The Pennington County Sheriff’s Office and Rapid City Police Department assisted in the chase.
