Box Elder city council now has opening following expulsion of Ward 1 Alderman

BOX ELDER, S.D. — Box Elder has an opening on its city council after a Ward 1 Alderman, Scott Allen, was expelled.

Allen was thrown off the council for misuse of power, disorderly conduct and conflicts of interest.

He’s accused of engaging in threatening behavior, subjecting city officials to profanity-laced tirades and using his public position to benefit his private business.

Mayor Larry Larson says the city wants all of its employees to work in a safe environment.

According to Larson, “We have great employees working here that we want to keep and we take any kinds of allegations like what was made by employees seriously.”

Allen denies that he committed any offenses worthy of expulsion and says he plans to appeal it in court.

The deadline for candidates to turn in their petition is Friday, May 24.
