Buche Foods weeks away from coming to Pine Ridge

PINE RIDGE S.D. – Pine Ridge’s only Native American-owned grocery store is just weeks away from coming into new ownership.

Buche Foods recently signed a contract with the Oglala Sioux Tribal Council to become Pine Ridge’s next grocery store. It will replace Hiway 20, the current owner of the Sioux Nation Shopping Center who’s operated it for the past 50 years. In 2012, they violated health codes when they sold spoiled meat.

Bouche Foods is slated to take over ownership of the Sioux Nation Shopping Center at the end of the year. Bouche says existing employees will get a four percent raise.

They also say that they’ll stock organic products, and will buy locally sourced as often as possible.

Bouche also operates in Gregory, Wagner, and Mission.
