Boss’ Pizza and Chicken handed out free Thanksgiving meals, here’s why

Vlcsnap 2022 11 24 12h18m48s513RAPID CITY, S.D. – The South Dakota pizza chain Boss’ Pizza gave away free meals for Thanksgiving this year as part of an annual tradition that began over a decade ago.

Boss’ Pizza and Chicken originally started in Sioux Falls and started handing out free meals for Thanksgiving about 15 years ago. When they opened in Rapid City, the tradition continued. The location on Omaha Street has been doing it for the last two years.

As for why they started, “The holidays are kind of tough for everyone. Not everyone has access to a Thanksgiving meal or any food on Thanksgiving or, you know, we just like to help out and give back to the community whenever we can.”, said one of the owners, Elisabeth Ketterer.

The meals consist of two pieces of chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, and a side of corn

They anticipate that at least 300 meals will be given out this year.

The meals will continue to be given out until 3 p.m. on Thursday, Thanksgiving Day.

The free meals from Boss’ are just another instance of the kindness that exists in the community, especially around the holidays.
