Bond set for suspect in Marquette Drive shooting

RAPID CITY, S.D. — A 22-year-old accused of manslaughter and aggravated assault made her first appearance in Pennington County court Thursday.

Jesse Marie Schmockel of Kyle has been charged with one count of first-degree manslaughter and four counts of aggravated assault stemming from the November 29 shooting on Marquette Drive.

Schmockel allegedly shot and killed 20-year-old Nova Alexander of Rapid City. Two others were injured in the incident.

No motive has been given but drugs were found at the scene.

Her bond has been set at $500,000 cash only; she has also been given a no contact order with two other individuals.

Schmockel will make her next court appearance on December 17.
