Rapid City police identify man found dead in Rapid Creek

UPDATE (4:40 p.m.) — Rapid City police have identified the man found Tuesday morning in Rapid Creek as 29-year-old Anthony Deleon, of Rapid City.

RCPD Spokesperson Brendyn Medina says an autopsy has been conducted and results indicate no evidence of foul play. A toxicology report will be conducted over the next two months.

The investigation surrounding the cause of Deleon’s death continues.

UPDATE (1:33 p.m.) — The man has been identified, release of his name is pending family notification. An autopsy has been scheduled.

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Emergency crews were called to the Maple Street Bridge between East Omaha Street and East Saint Louis Street Tuesday morning after pedestrians reported seeing a body partially submerged in a section of Rapid Creek running through Roosevelt Park.

Shortly before 8:00 a.m., first responders attempted a water rescue, but the unidentified male was declared dead on the scene.

According to Rapid City Police Department spokesperson Brendyn Medina, they are working to positively verify the identity of the deceased, and the circumstances of his death are still unknown at this time.
