Body of man found near S. Valley Drive identified

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Police were dispatched to the 3000 block of South Valley Drive on October 12 at around 2:20 p.m. for a report of an unresponsive subject spotted in a culvert.

On arrival, police located the man, deceased.

The deceased man was identified as 60-year-old James Lanphere of Rapid City. Lanphere had been reported missing earlier in the day.

Lanphere was last seen the evening prior leaving his residence after “having hallucinations” according to the reporting party.

An autopsy has been completed and revealed no signs of trauma or other foul play.

His extensive health history is suspected to have played a role in his death.
