Body found in Rapid Creek, RCPD investigating circumstances

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Rapid City police are investigating the death of a person found in Rapid Creek Tuesday afternoon.

According to spokesperson for the Rapid City Police Department Brendyn Medina, police and the Rapid City Fire Department’s water rescue team were called at 1:45 p.m. to Rapid Creek near the Kia dealership on Campbell St. for what they initially thought was a water rescue.

First responders soon discovered that the person was a deceased adult male. As of 2:30 p.m., the RCFD’s water rescue team is still on scene, working to remove the individual.

Officials on scene did not confirm the age or gender of the person. It is also unknown how long the body has been in the water.

Lt. Jim Bussell with the RCFD says the investigation will continue through the rest of the day.
