Black Hills Vintage Auto Auction opens to the public

RAPID CITY, S.D. — The Black Hills Auto Auction, is a local company that works exclusively with dealers to provide quality vintage vehicles, but over the weekend, the auction was opened to the public.

Although the company runs weekly as a dealer-only run business, there has been a high demand for classic cars in the Black Hills. With the help of the South Dakota Independent Auto Association, the auction was opened to the public, and in only 40 days.

“We were very impressed, we had over 70 consignments come through today,” said Greg Hoffman, the General Manager of The Black Hills Auto Auction. “So very good for the short amount of time we had to go. Turnout has been good with the public and our dealers as far as buying and selling. So we’re very happy, very happy.”

Hoffman believes part of the turnout was due to the Sturgis Rally being around the corner, as many times motorcycle lovers tend to be car lovers as well. Concerning auctioning during COVID-19, the business is working to recover from lost sales at the height of the pandemic and is hopeful for normalcy.
