Black Hills Stock Show hosts NRCHA All-Around Show

RAPID CITY S.D. – Events leading up to the Black Hills Stock Show continued today with the National Reined Cow Horse Show.

According to the NRCHA, the show horses of today trace their roots to cow horses in California and throughout the west in the 18th century. Before ATVs and other machines, ranchers needed a precise, controlled horse to round up and control cattle.

The horses on Sunday competed in four contests: herd work, rein work, steer stopping and cow work.

The event is intended to keep the history of horsemanship alive.
