Black Hills State head football coach John Reiners resigns

SPEARFISH, S.D. – The search is underway for a new head football coach at Black Hills State University.

John Reiners announced his resignation following the conclusion of the season on Saturday in which the Yellow Jackets defeated Azusa Pacific University.

Reiners stepped down after eight years as head coach for Black Hills State, posting a career record of 27-60.

He replaced Jay Long who is now the head football coach at Chadron State.

In 2016, Reiners led the Yellow Jackets to a 7-4 overall record and their best finish ever in the RMAC Conference.

During that same year, Reiners was named r-mac coach of the year.

This year, the Yellow Jackets finished 2-8 in the conference and 3-8 overall.
