Black Hills Patrol receives award for employing veterans

RAPID CITY, S.D.— Black Hills Patrol is a private security contractor for western South Dakota, and recent recipients of the “Hire Vets” Platinum Medallion.

This is the highest recognition that is given for the employment of veterans of the Armed Forces of the United States by the Department of Labor.

The “Hire Vets Initiative” was signed into law by President Trump back in 2017 and requires the Secretary of Labor to establish a program that recognizes employer efforts to recruit, employ, and retain veterans.

“It recognizes businesses that make extraordinary efforts to not only hire veterans, but also to retain them and provide programs for their professional development through the course of their employment,” said Ken Orrock, owner of Black Hills Patrol.

Black Hills Patrol currently employs veterans from all branches of the Armed Forces, as well as members of the South Dakota, Nebraska, and Wyoming Air Force and Army National Guard—making up about one-third of their staff.
