Black Hills Farmers Market opens for summer season, welcomes back warm weather and vendors

RAPID CITY, S.D. — The Black Hills Farmers Market officially kicked off its spring and summer season Saturday morning, welcoming back vendors who have been away for the winter.

Farmers MarketLocated along Omaha Street between Maple Avenue and Waterloo Street, the market gives shoppers the chance to buy everything from vegetables and meats to jams and jewelry from local growers and artisans.

Even though it’s early in the season, manager Barbara Cromwell says there’s already a lot of fresh produce.

And she says the market accepts SNAP benefits, making it a great option for people on a limited budget.

“Through the summer months, we are able to double those benefits up to $20 each market day,” she said. “So a family can come and spend $20 on their SNAP benefits and go home with $40 worth of local healthy food.”

The market will be open every Saturday from 8:00 am until 2:00 pm, now until the end of October.

And starting in July, they’ll open on Wednesdays too, with the same time slot.
