Black Hills Energy restoring power outage in Northern Black Hills

UPDATE: (07/12/20 at 7:00 p.m.) – Black Hills Energy crews will look to finish restoring power to the affected customers by Monday, July 13.

There are about 50 customers without power in Spearfish Canyon, Terry Peak and the Tinton area.

UPDATE: (07/11/20 @ 9:20 p.m.) – Black Hills Energy Crews continue to restore power in the Spearfish Canyon area.

Additional damage to power poles and lines was identified, which will require crews to work till Sunday, July 12 in order to restore power to the remaining 200 customers without power.

UPDATE: (07/11/20 @ 12:26 p.m.) – Early Saturday morning, about 25 Black Hills Energy operation employees and contracted tree service companies began working on restoring the electric power to the 512 customers that experienced a power outage around 4:30 p.m on Friday, July 10.

The updated time of the power restoration is scheduled for completion at 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 11.

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Customers of Black Hills Energy are experiencing a power outage in the areas of Terry Peak, Spearfish Canyon and Tinton.

The outage occurred around 4:15 p.m. and impacted about 782 customers. Crews responded immediately to restore power and have identified that about 100 poles were damaged due to extreme weather that occurred throughout the Black Hills on Friday night. Powerlines were also damaged due to the weather.

Black Hills Energy crews plan to begin repairing the damaged poles and powerlines until midnight and then continue to restore them on Saturday morning. The estimated time of the power restoration is by mid-afternoon Saturday.
