Bison man found guilty of 2017 gun-related kidnapping, rape
BISON, SD — A Bison man is facing the possibility of life behind bars after a jury found him guilty of a kidnapping and rape that took place in 2017.
Richard Seidel, 57, of Bison was found guilty in Perkins County Court Friday on all four charges — first-degree kidnapping, second-degree rape, commission of a felony while armed with firearms, and aggravated assault.
First-degree kidnapping carries a maximum penalty of life in prison.
Seidel will be sentenced Nov. 5 at 10 a.m. in Perkins County Court.
According to a Perkins County Sheriff’s Office report, on Nov. 2, 2017, a woman told a deputy she had been zip-tied, taken to Seidel’s home, and raped at gunpoint. Seidel was arrested shortly after. Following an initial appearance, Seidel posted $1 million in cash to bond out of jail.
The Perkins County Sheriff’s Office and the Division of Criminal Investigation investigated the case.
