Birnbaum breaks 4-minute mile at the Brooks PR Invitational in Seattle

SEATTLE, WA – Simeon Birnbaum from Rapid City competed at the Brooks PR Invitational on Wednesday at the University of Washington in Seattle.

Not only did he win the boys one mile race, but he did it in historic fashion.

The Rapid City Stevens standout won the race in a time of 3:59.51.

The time is a new school and state record in South Dakota.

Birnbaum is only the third junior to ever run the mile in under four minutes.

In fact, he’s now the 17th athlete all-time to break four minutes in the mile.

Birnbaum is in Eugene, Oregon now to compete with the Rapid City Stevens medley relay team at the Nike Outdoor Nationals.

The race is scheduled for Friday at around 3:30 p.m. MT.
