Joey came to Rapid City in 2017 to get a degree in Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences from South Dakota Mines. Getting a degree in one of the most meteorologically diverse regions provided plenty of learning opportunities

“Growing up in central Minnesota, I’m very familiar with rapidly changing weather conditions. Ever since experiencing my first tornado warning in 1st grade, I’ve been fascinated with weather and have been pursuing a job in meteorology since then.”

In 2022 Joey graduated with a M.S. in Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences, and a few months later, he got a job with NewsCenter1.

“I’m excited that I finally get to fulfill my childhood dream of being a meteorologist. My goal is to get people as interested in weather as I am”

Outside of meteorology, Joey is a fan of all Minnesota sports, photography, playing tennis, camping, and, of course, storm chasing.
