Bill prohibiting the smoking of marijuana in motor vehicles to be discussed Monday

On Monday, February 8, House Bill 1061, which prohibits the smoking of marijuana in a motor vehicle and sets the penalty, will be discussed.

PIERRE, S.D. — A bill that would prohibit smoking marijuana in a motor vehicle and sets the penalty, will now be considered in the South Dakota house on Monday, February 8.

South Dakota House Bill 1061 had originally been scheduled to be heard on Friday, February 5.

The discussion of the bill comes after voters in November approved legalizing both medical and recreational marijuana.

Sponsors of the bill include Republican Representatives Mary J. Fitzgerald, Taffy Howard (District 33) and Phil Jensen as well as State Senators Julie Frye-Mueller, and David Johnson.
