Belle Fourche woman sentenced for theft of over $112,000 in government benefits

BELLE FOURCHE, S.D. — A Belle Fourche woman has been sentenced to 10 months in federal prison and ordered to pay $112,468 in restitution after she used false statements to receive money from the government through social security, SNAP, Medicaid and the Low Income Energy Assistance Program.

Cindy Lou Geib, 49, willfully and knowingly reported false information in order to receive $112,468 in government money and benefits for herself and her four children between 2011 and 2017.

Authorities say Geib not only failed to report that she had returned to work, but also falsely claimed that her husband was no longer in the household to conceal his income.

Geib is ordered to self-surrender to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service on March 20, 2019, to begin her sentence.
