Batesland man identified as victim in Saturday fatal crash
UPDATE (7/14/21 @ 12:30 P.M.): A 69-year-old Batesland man died in a Saturday afternoon crash near Martin.
William Stover was driving the 2009 Smart Fortwo when it crossed the center line and hit a 2018 Freightliner semi.
Stover was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The man, driving a 2009 Smart Fortwo, was westbound on Hwy. 18 about 13 miles west of Martin when he crossed the center line and struck an eastbound 2018 Freightliner semi-truck.
He was thrown from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. The man was not wearing a seat belt. His name is being withheld pending notification of next-of-kin.
The semi driver, a 56-year-old man, was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.
South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
