Badlands Sabres sign six more players for next season

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Badlands Sabres are building their roster for the 2022-23 season.

The Sabres recently signed six players who are former members of the Rushmore Thunder.

The list includes the Sabres first two draft picks, Dawson Wirth and AJ Petrotto.

Wirth led the Thunder this past season with 35 goals and 30 assists.

Meanwhile, Petrotto finished with 34 points in 18 games.

The other members include Duncan Chisolm, Parker Brannan, Tyson Dunbar and Brady DeVries who filled in as an emergency back-up goalie for the Utah Grizzlies a few months ago.

Sabres head coach Brendon Hodge said it’s always been a goal to give local hockey players more opportunities.

“I’ve personally coached all of these kids before with the Thunder program,” said Sabres head coach Brendon Hodge. “I’ve watched them all last year. I put my due diligence in with these players. It wasn’t just a thing that came up last week. This has been a two year thing of us watching them and seeing how they developed.”

“They’re kind of one of the more professional junior teams in this league obviously and they take it more seriously than I feel like other teams would,” said Sabres forward Dawson Wirth. “So that’s one of the main decisions that made me come here.”

“I thought it would be a place at home that I could play good hockey and I was excited to play back with coach Hodge again,” said Sabres goalie Brady DeVries. “So I’m just ready for the year to start already.”
