Badlands Sabres fall to the Gillette Wild in home opener

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Badlands Sabres squared off against the Gillette Wild on Saturday in the franchise’s first-ever home game.

Unfortunately, the Wild defeated the Sabres, 5-1.

The Wild jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second period.

Then Ryan Hipsag scored for the Sabres, cutting the lead to 3-1.

But Gillette added two more power play goals in the third period.

Saizha Norweigian led the Wild with two goals.

The Badlands Sabres will host the Sheridan Hawks on Sept. 17-18 at the Roosevelt Park Ice Arena.

The puck will drop at 7:05 p.m. both nights.
