Authorities searching for answers after hit-and-run leaves teen fighting for life

LINCOLN COUNTY, S.D. — Authorities are searching for answers after a 15-year-old girl was found critically injured after being struck by a vehicle.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office says the incident happened around 2:57 a.m. on Monday between Harrisburg and Tea on I-29.

The teen was either walking or standing northbound on the road when she was hit. A portion of I-29 was temporarily closed after she was discovered, as authorities tended to her and also investigated the scene.
