Authorities respond to semi fire near Buffalo Gap

BUFFALO GAP, S.D. — Law enforcement units have responded to a single lane pileup that has caused traffic delays, which stretch about one mile long near Buffalo Gap.

Via a Facebook post from the Custer County Sheriff, at about 2:30 p.m., a semi trailer that was hauling several vehicles caught fire on South Dakota Highway 79.

The responding units were able to limit the fire to the tractor trailer and its contents. A few small grass fires started as a result, but they were extinguished quickly.

A special thanks was given to the South Dakota Highway Patrol, the Fall River County Sheriff’s Office, Buffalo Gap Fire Department and Hot Springs Fire Department for their assistance.
