Authorities identify man killed in Spearfish dump truck crash

From the South Dakota Department of Public Safety:

Spearfish, S.D.– A Spearfish man has been identified as the person who died Monday morning in a one-vehicle crash three miles west of Spearfish.

Alan Campbell, 43, was driving a  2000 Conventional 5800 dump truck northbound on Gobbler Road. The vehicle, which was hauling top soil, was traveling downhill when the driver failed to negotiate a right hand turn. The vehicle went off the roadway to the left, went over a berm, collided with several trees and eventually rolled.

Campbell, who was not wearing a seat belt, was partially ejected from the dump truck. He later died as a result of his injuries. He was the only occupant in the vehicle.

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. The Spearfish Ambulance also was on scene.
