Authorities evacuate residents after car hits gas line in Rapid City

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Authorities evacuated several residences after a vehicle impacted a home Monday night on the 2800 block of Arrowhead Drive, shearing off a gas meter below the shutoff valve and causing a gas leak.

Following the guidance of Montana-Dakota Utilities Company along with Black Hills Energy, power was shut off to the neighborhood to reduce the potential for fire or explosion, according to the Rapid City Fire Department.

Utility crews worked to repair the damage and had the gas leak contained and power restored to the neighborhood and all evacuations were lifted as of 12:05 a.m.
