August recognized as National Immunization Awareness Month

The South Dakota Department of Health is teaming up with partners nationwide in recognizing August as National Immunization Awareness Month.

Barbara Philips, nurse educator for the Department of Health Immunization Program, says that children who don’t receive recommended vaccines are at risk of getting the disease or illness and of having a sever case.

The Department of Health says getting vaccinated and keeping yourself healthy helps others as well, including babies who are too young to be fully vaccinated and people with weakened immune systems, due to cancer and other health conditions.
