Attention Ladies: You won’t want to miss out on Hill City’s annual Girlfriends’ Weekend

HILL CITY, S.D. – Take a moment and enjoy the night with your girls at the 10th annual Girlfriends’ Weekend in Hill City.

“We just invite girlfriends to break away from life for a little bit and spend some time with the women who support you in your world and come out and have a good time,” Lorena Freis, co-owner of The Farmer’s Daughter, said. “Laugh a little bit. Enjoy some treats. Shop a little bit. Have some good food. Drink some wine. Have some fun.”

What is Hill City’s Girlfriends’ Weekend

This weekend is a chance for women to get together with their friends and enjoy Hill City.

There is shopping all day Friday through Sunday and eating at restaurants in town. The weekend also has a special event each day to enjoy.

Special events during Girlfriends’ Weekend

• Hill City Girlfriends’ Weekend Fashion Show
  • Friday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. – Prairie Berry Winery
    • Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for the 10th annual fashion show. Hors d’oeuvres will be provided; Beer & wine is available to buy. Shuttle services will be free, provided by Harlow’s Bus & Shuttle Services. They depart Hippie Rockstar Boutique Wine & Beer Bar at 6:20 p.m. (Gratuity for driver is recommended.)
• Game Night
  • Saturday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. – Sick N Twisted Brewing Co.
    • Again, doors open at 6 :30 p.m. While teams can no longer register, it’s encouraged to still enjoy the fun while watching the teams compete. Wine & beer is available to buy and complimentary pizza will be provided by the brewing company.
• Sunday Brunch
  • Sunday, Nov. 6 at 9 a.m. – Hill City Center
    • Food, beverages and one-on-one pampering. This event is also catered by Black Hills Bistro.

Special offers from shops and restaurants

• Restaurants are having dining specials. Some are free mimosas with entrees. Others have free truffles with a purchased meal.
• The shops in town usually have specials like buy one, get one 25% off. Shops like Jewel of the West might have a clearance rack marked off (Jewel of West’s is 60% off).
• Some stores also have treats for girlfriends to enjoy. For examples, Gypsy Rose Tattoo Studio has nuts from Wild West Pecan Company and The Farmer’s Daughter has adult smores.

Why do they hold the Girlfriends’ Weekend

“Before we did Hill City Girlfriends’ Weekend, the first weekend of November was always really slow because the tourists had already gone home. With girlfriends weekend, we typically – over Friday, Saturday and Sunday – will have 400 to 500 women coming to town. They’re shopping and they’re dining and they’re wine tasting. So they’re having a good time and they’re saving some money,” Freis said. “Girlfriends’ Weekend is a great economic boon for Hill City’s merchants. So, you know, the more people that come in, the more people spend. And so as a merchant, it’s a beautiful thing for that reason.”
