Area military families to receive donated Christmas trees

ELLSWORTH AIR FORCE BASE, S.D. – Approximately 145 Christmas trees are set to arrive Nov. 30 with the first picks available to the families of deployed Airmen from 1 to 2 p.m. at Ellsworth Air Force Base.

The trees are provided by farmers and the donation is facilitated by the Christmas SPIRIT Foundation.

FedEx delivers the trees to military bases throughout the world as a way to thank military members and their families for their service. Airmen will help with unloading the trees and packing them in the vehicles of recipients.

This is Ellsworth’s 10th year participating in the program. In addition to families of deployed Airmen, others serving at Ellsworth, soldiers from the South Dakota National Guard and Douglas High School Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps cadets are eligible to receive a tree.
