Archery deer hunting season begins on Sunday
RAPID CITY, S.D. – The official start to hunting season is just days away!
Archery deer hunting kicks off on Sunday, September 1st and runs until January 1st. If you’ve already picked up your tag or received yours in the mail, then you’re good to go. But if you still haven’t, then you’ll have to wait until it arrives before you can head out and start the season.
“When you apply for a tag, you’ll receive the tag in the mail. It will have the legal shooting hours. It will have the opening date, the closing date of the season. It will have definitions of if you have an antlerless deer tag, well what is an antlerless deer? That’s in your tag. If you have an any deer tag… what does that mean? Its on your tag. All the information is there, you just need to open the envelope before you go to the field and make sure you are doing everything according to the guidelines and laws and regulations,” said Keith Wintersteen with the South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks.
