Annual Scare & Share provides Halloween costumes for local children

RAPID CITY, S.D. — For the sixth year in a row a Rapid City business is hoping to provide local children with a chance to dress up for trick or treating this Halloween.

Shannon Thomas, owner of moving company Thomas and Sons, is providing close to almost 130 children with costumes from Dakota Party free of charge. Thomas and his family will also provide free ice cream from Armadillo’s to the children who sign up for costumes.

For Thomas, Halloween is an important day for children, and not because they end up with a bag full of goodies.

“The reason we do this is because of the kids,” Thomas said. “The one time of year, Halloween is the best day of the year, because that one time of the year a child can be whoever they want. And that’s how we raise our children is to grow up to be whoever they want. Well, what better way to show these kids is if they get to be Superman or Wonder Woman during Halloween? It shows them they can be whoever they want.”

If there are any costumes cluttering up your home, Thomas & Sons will gladly accept used costume donations year-round at their location at 3333 Sturgis Road in Rapid City.

If you know of a family that can use some help in providing Halloween costumes for their children, you can contact Thomas & Sons at 605-787-3871. Even if children are not signed up, donated costumes will still be available while supplies last.
