American Legion cancels 2020 World Series and Regional Tournaments

Post 22 holding out hope for some sort of season.

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The 2020 American Legion World Series has been canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Commission on Tuesday, also canceled its eight regional tournaments.

“These times are unparalleled,” Commission chairman Richard Anderson said in a press release. “And while it is distressing to think of all those youth across the nation who are disappointed to learn of the cancellation of American Legion programs this year, it would be a much, much greater tragedy if even just one of those youth were to fall ill during a program. The Americanism Commission feels this is the right thing to do.”

The Commission said the cancellation came as many coaches were unable to complete the prerequisite league games they would need between May and July since school and playing facilities are closed.

However, the Commission did not give directive for individual states.
