Air quality alert issued for west Rapid City

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Effective from 2 to 10 p.m. today the South Dakota Department of Environment and Natural Resources has issued an air quality alert for dust. The alert has been issued for the Rapid City area west of the Gap. This is due to increasing wind gusts beginning around 2 p.m.

It is recommended that the elderly, young and anyone with respiratory problems should avoid excessive physical exertion and exposure to the air outside.

Air gusts are expected to increase to 25 to 35 miles per hour with some gusts reaching up to 50 miles per hour.
