Agencies responding to grass fire on Pine Ridge

UPDATE (2:30) — The Martin Volunteer Fire Department’s engine crew has reported a fire that is 15-20 acres large in “very rough terrain.”

OST Emergency Management is advising a Pine Ridge BIA Hand Crew to be called in, and possibly one from Rosebud as well to assist in facing the fire.



MANDERSON, S.D. — Multiple agencies are responding to reports of a grass fire on the Pine Ridge Reservation.

The grass fire is in rough country and is encroaching on timber in the Manderson area, according to the Martin Volunteer Fire Department. There is no known cause of the fire, and authorities do not know how many acres of land are threatened at this time.

OST Emergency Management and BIA Fire are being assisted by Martin Volunteer Fire Department and the Kyle Fire Department.
