AG Ravnsborg releases explanation for proposed ballot measure
PIERRE, SD — Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg has released an explanation for a proposed ballot measure that deals with the people who try to get signatures on ballot measure petitions.
The measure calls for a repeal of legislation enacted this year requiring the Secretary of State to maintain a directory of people who circulate statewide ballot measure petitions.
The new law calls for the circulators to wear a badge with an ID number when gathering signatures, but not their name and other personal information.
Opponents of the new law want to return to the former requirements prior to 2019.
Those would include presenting signers with the circulator’s name, phone number and email address.
