Acting AG Matthew Whitaker tells lawmakers he hasn’t interfered in Mueller investigation
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker is insisting he hasn’t encroached on the Mueller investigation into Russian election interference.
However, Whitaker stopped short of saying the probe is not a “witch hunt” during a House Judiciary Committee hearing on Friday.
Whitaker was called to the hearing to answer questions about his position at the top of the Justice Department, despite his history of vocalizing opposition to the Mueller investigation.
Whitaker refused to come before the House Judiciary until its Chair, Rep. Jerrold Nadler, announced he would serve Whitaker a subpoena if he didn’t willingly testify.
